To increase student engagement and interest in the areas of STEM the Flying Classroom offers a variety of STEM+ Engagement activities:
Can you imagine a helicopter landing at your school? Bringing STEM and aviation to life for students, Captain Irving visits schools via helicopter. Students have the opportunity to see the helicopter land, greet Captain Irving at landing and view a static helicopter display. The Captain then meets with teachers and students to share his journey into STEM and aviation and participate in a Q & A session about his global adventures.
Captain Irving visit schools participating in the Flying Classroom and presents his life story that includes his unique journey into STEM. Students have an opportunity to hear about his story of determination that led him to the inspirational record setting flight around the globe. They will have the chance to see images from that trip as well as some highlights from the Flying Classroom Expeditions.
A field trip to the local airport, speaking engagement with Captain Irving and hands-on STEM activity is sure to inspire students with the areas of STEM. During a hangar event students experience all of this! The Flying Classroom team works with the local airport to create a way for students to visit the facility. Next Captain Irving shares his experience in aviation and the story behind his flight around the world. Then students complete an aviation themed hands-on STEM experience.
