Hello Flying Classroom family,
We arrived with a local Channel 12 reporter filming us and were welcomed by Anchorage's finest fixed based operation (FBO), Great Circle. We then closed out our long day of flying from the Emerald City with a sunset dinner overlooking Lake Hood, the busiest and largest sea plane base in the world!!
There are close to 1,000 aircraft based on the 202-acre lake. They run over 200 operations per day, flying food, medicine and mail to the 82% of Alaskan communities not served by roads. Their aircraft can land on uneven surfaces like river beds in the backcountry using large diameter "bush" or "tundra" tires. Most aircraft here can be converted to floatplanes or ski-planes depending on the season.
Tomorrow Russia, enjoy the pics!!!
